Champion Home Builders Wins Modular Building Institute’s “Best of Show” in Permanent Commercial Housing During the 2013 Modular Building Institute Awards of Distinction

Champion Home Builders, a leading producer of modular homes, commercial buildings and manufactured homes, today announced that it has won the Best of Show award at the Modular Building Institute’s (MBI) 2013 Awards of Distinction for a student housing project located in Ithaca, N.Y. The Best of Show award is given to the entry that received the most votes by the attendees at the World of Modular Conference that took place in Scottsdale, Az. on March 19.

The building was constructed for Beers Properties and is serving the off-campus student and faculty housing market for Cornell University. It includes four stories of modular construction placed over a concrete and steel podium. The modules were built in the Champion facility located in Strattanville, Pa. The building has a mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments, and features underground parking below the podium. For photos of the project, please visit http://www.championcommercial.com.

MBI hosts the industry's premier awards program annually for its members, which includes building manufacturers, dealers, and product and service providers, and recognizes the best in commercial modular building design and construction. Each entry was reviewed by an impartial panel of industry and non-industry construction and code experts, architects and engineers, and marketing professionals. Entries were judged on architectural excellence, technical innovation and sustainability, cost-effectiveness, energy-efficiency and calendar days to complete.

“The World of Modular Best of Show award is one of our industry’s top honors. What makes it so special is that the top building of the year is selected by the industry participants at our annual conference, so it’s a peer selection process,” said Tom Hardiman, executive director of the Modular Building Institute. “This year, we had over one hundred entries and a record number of attendees, making it one of the most competitive competitions we’ve had for the award. Champion’s entry was certainly worthy of the title “Best of Show,” and we are proud to have them as a member of the Modular Building Institute.”

“Champion works hard to manufacture the best buildings in the industry and we are incredibly pleased to be recognized by the modular building industry and our peers with this honor,” Jack Lawless, CEO of Champion Home Builders, said. “The modules for the Cornell project were placed on the podium in just five working days, a premier example of a major benefit of the modular building process.”
